Tasmania: The Great Eastern Drive

Our visit to Tasmania started off in the northeast. We landed in Launceston and drove the 1.5 hours to Swansea.  We stayed here for 3 days visiting the Bay of Fires and Freycinet National Park.  There were amazingly winding drives on really narrow roadways.  The coastline was incredibly beautiful and breathtaking.  The speed limit goes from 100km/hr during the daytime to 65km/hr at night due to the immense amount of nocturnal wildlife.  They are serious about this, and for good reason!

There were Sheep and hay everywhere.
Everyplace that had sheep sold Sheep Poo!

More sheep, they were everywhere!
Aside from the very main roads in Tansania, all the rest of the roads were dirt! And sometimes the main roads switched to a dirt road in the middle of a stretch for a bit.

We've seen so many cemeteries that are incredibly old. The oldest gravestone in this one we found was from the early 1800's

The beautiful Freycinet Coast!

Just hanging with my sisters on the beach.

The pre-dusk hour before the penguins arrived.

Looking at the beautiful Fairy Penguins!  They are the smallest penguins in the world!  They had several nesting boxes setup around the property.
Just waiting for the penguins to come ashore.  We weren't allowed to use a flash on our camera because it will blind the penguins. So, we didn't get great pictures, but we did get some.
The Spikey bridge made by convicts! This was on a small detour next to our road. (remember this Island was a Jail)
